Henry Collins, aged 13. Orphans of the Sailor of Hongkong, Father European, and Mother Indian;

George Mottley - 11 : Son of Dr Mottley, Medical Practitioner at Shanghae - Removed by his parents after short stay in the College.
A Chinese, Yip Angaon, aged 17, was employed as an Interpreter by the Government of Jamaica - Now employed as an Interpreter.
Lung Ayan, aged 15, was offered a situation as Emigrant Interpreter under the Government of Jamaica, but declined the appointment not wishing to leave China. The first ultimately entered the service of Rev. I. Holderness of the Bethel, Hongkong, and the last that of the Rev. I. B. Oliver of Hongkong.
Besides the Government nominees, there have not been more than four European lads under instruction at the College and these only for short periods. As far as we have been able to ascertain from the replies of the Bishop and Mr. Odell, no Government appointments in China have ever been offered to the College; none of the Students have entered the Government service, although several educated at the Morrison School, now abolished, have been and some are now in Government employ, and have proved themselves highly intelligent and useful public Servants.
For this reason, it seems that no special instruction is given to fit Students for the Public service, although the cause of education has been advanced since the allowance of the grant. Indeed, the Bishop states that if...
